“I am allowed to slow down until I feel steady again.”
Permission shows up early in this line, in the word "allowed," which quietly assumes that slowing down needs defending. Many people treat slowing as something to justify, so naming it as allowed removes that argument before it starts. "Until" is doing further work, refusing to put a deadline on the process. There is no fixed pace implied here, only a direction, which takes the pressure off getting there quickly.
